Stripburger

Magazine content description

In the distant year of 1992 the first issue of this, now legendary, magazine was published. In the beginning it wanted to combine comics, photography, graphic arts, film, and music. However, in the next few magazines Stripburger developed into a real comic magazine. Since the very start, it combines the work of Slovenian authors and new work from the worldwide production and organizes workshops, exhibitions, lectures, and similar projects with the goal of promoting comic culture and creativity in Slovenia.

This biannual publication has featured hundreds of authors from virtually every European country and from different parts of the world. It almost seems as if Stripburger is more appreciated abroad than at home. The editorial board visited numerous festivals, book fairs, and galleries and succeeded in arousing the attention of the international public. In January 2001 the magazine won an award at the International Festival of Comic Art in Angouleme in the category for the best fanzine. A lot of attention was also given to special English editions of the magazine, namely Stripburek, Comics from the Other Europe, anthology of Eastern European comics, Honey Talks - comics inspired by painted beehive panels, and Workburger - skillfully woven patchwork of diverse comic strip narratives, revolving around the topic of contemporary work.

A special part of Stripburger are its imprints: Republika Strip is devoted to independent publications of Slovenian comic authors, Ambasada Strip presents translations of works of contemporary comic classics, Minimundus is primarily intended for children and young adults, and O imprint includes all the comics that are not thematically suitable for any other imprint.

Besides these activities, the Stripburger editorial board also organizes a comic strip and animation competition for young adults called Živel strip! (Long live the comic!).
